Back in 2009, inspired by what we experienced at the Maker Faire – a festival celebrating the tinkerers and maker movement, K and I created the Dinky Ninja Bears. K and I had the idea, my Mom came up with the name, K and I came up with the design and origin story, K created patterns for sewing and made them all, while I worked on the t-shirts and website. It was a great way to work together on something we thought was so cho-kawaii (cute). And yes, everything you see here we created IRL and/or digitally. From plush to paper craft, logo to video game – it was all K and I.
In a few short months, we revealed them at APAture – a multidisciplinary arts festival that presents and promotes art by local up-and-coming artists of Asian and/or Pacific Islander descent. The Dinky Ninja Bears even made it onto blogsites.
We had a lot fun bringing these little Dinky Ninja Bears to life and to also share them with family and friends.
Fast forward to 2020, while cleaning up and organizing our home, lil A discovered these little guys and started playing with them. All teh good feelz started to fill my soul again as she played with the lil plushies.
I don’t know if they’ll ever come out of hibernation, but its been fun sharing these lil Dinky Ninja Bears with our little A of sunshine now.
Welcome to the Dinky Ninja Bear Dojo
Lo and behold. For the Dinky Ninja Bears are upon us! Specially trained in a variety of unorthodox arts of stealthy BUT loving friendship. The tactics used by the Dinky Ninja Bears include: stylish collectors’ pal stance, “I go with you anywhere” companion style, and the elusive Jump-In-Picture Bear Buddy pose. As sneaky as they are cunning the Dinky Ninja Bears will jump into your hearts as easily as the wind blows, the water flows, and the sun shines.
