Just my own personal recommendations if you’re visiting San Francisco for the first time. But who even am I? 1. Boudin Sourdough Bread Bowl
“We’re starting with a San Francisco icon — the sourdough bread bowl at Boudin. Since 1849, they’ve been baking their signature tangy sourdough, and filling it with creamy clam chowder. It’s history you can taste. For the ultimate experience, make your way to Boudin at fisherman’s wharf, where you can smell the fresh baked sourdough, dine/in, learn about Boudin history and overlook the Bay. Highly recommend. Optional: This one runs about $19.”
⸻
2. Mission Burrito
“Next up, a mission style burrito. We love going to El Farolito – it’s a local favorite spot ell known doe its Mission-style burritos — huge, packed with rice, beans, meat, and salsa, all wrapped in a tortilla . It’s hella big and hella filling. It’s neighborhood tradition, late-night fuel, and one of the city’s true culinary landmarks. I like to add the red and green salsa to spice up my life. Optional: Around $14.”
⸻
3. Chinatown Noodles
“San Francisco’s Chinatown is the oldest in North America, and grabbing a bowl of hand-pulled noodles here is a must. Whether stir-fried or served in soup, these noodles carry generations of flavor and culture right into your bowl.”
⸻
4. Acme Pastry + Blue Bottle Espresso
“For a quick pick-me-up, I paired an almond croissant from Acme Bread company with a single shot of espresso from Blue Bottle Coffee. Acme is a Bay Area bakery staple, and Blue Bottle began right across the Bay Bridge in Oakland before going global. Together, it’s everyday San Francisco — refined, simple, and hella satisfying. Optional: Just over $10 for both.”
⸻
5. Deli Sandwich on Dutch Crunch
“Dutch crunch bread is a Bay Area obsession — with its sweet, crackly crust that makes any deli sandwich instantly better. Whether it’s turkey, roast beef, or veggie, ordering on Dutch crunch is the local move. Optional: Mine came to about $19 plus tax.”
⸻
6. Super Duper Burger
“For a modern classic, Super Duper Burger nails it. A juicy mini burger, garlic fries, and a rich chocolate shake — it’s fast food, but done the San Francisco way: fresh, local, and absolutely delicious. Optional: The combo costs around $25.”
⸻
7. The Original Slice – North Beach
“In North Beach, San Francisco’s Little Italy, pizza is everywhere — but The Original Slice is a favorite. Grab a slice on the go, or sit down with a full pie at Tony’s Pizza Napoletana – which ranked 2nd best pizzeria in the United States! It’s an honest to goodness pizza – tasty, and perfect after exploring the neighborhood. Optional: $7.50 a slice or $41 for a pie.”
⸻
8. Salad at Mixt
“When you want something fresh, Mixt is the spot. Their colorful salads are packed with seasonal produce and creative toppings, proving that even a simple salad can feel like a San Francisco food experience. Optional: Around $19.”
⸻
9. Cioppino – Tadich Grill
“Few dishes capture San Francisco’s history like cioppino — a rich, tomato-based seafood stew created by Italian fishermen in the 1800s. Tadich Grill, the city’s oldest restaurant, serves one of the most famous versions, loaded with crab, shrimp, and clams. Optional: About $60.”
⸻
10. Ice Cream in San Francisco
“To wrap it up, let’s talk ice cream — because San Francisco takes it seriously. You’ve got world-famous sundaes at Ghirardelli Square, wild flavors at Humphry Slocombe, the cult-favorite scoops at Bi-Rite Creamery, and even historic Fentons across the Bay in Oakland. No matter which you choose, ice cream is the sweetest way to end a San Francisco food adventure.”
